Description

I mistakenly thought that Venus-Jupiter conjunctions were rare events. In reality they tend to repeat in a specific position relative to the Sun every 3,3 years. The reason is explained nicely by the astronomer Patrick Hardigan in his excellent web page, based on the least common multiple of synodic periods of Venus and Jupiter. It happens that there are more than one spot where this happens, therefore these conjunctions are pretty frequent, as shown in the following graph by Patrick Hardigan.
The word "synodic" comes from Greek σύνοδος (sinodos), meaning "meeting".

In revision B the moment of minimum distance on the 1st of March.
